Dr. Kleinheinz has a B.S. from Northern Michigan University where he studied Biology and Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Environmental Microbiology from Michigan Tech University. He is a Registered Sanitarian (RS) in Wisconsin and Michigan and is a licensed well pump installer in Wisconsin. He has also been a licensed contractor and has experience with both residential and commercial construction techniques. Dr. Kleinheinz has over 20 years of experience working on environmental health issues and has conducted over 1,000 home or business inspections related to water and mold issues. Dr. Kleinheinz has presented mold remediation and fungal sampling data at professional meetings, conducted public health training sessions, and has peer-reviewed publications associated with site inspections and mold sampling of remediated homes and businesses. He has conducted over $10 million dollars of research on environmental health issues throughout the Great Lakes region, mentored undergraduate and graduate students, and taught a variety of microbiology and environmental health courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Additionally, he has completed additional training in microscopic mold identification and immunology.
